Corporate manslaughter charge after man's death

A company has been charged with corporate manslaughter in connection with the death of a man who suffered serious injuries while at work.

Paul Johnson, 45, was injured at a premises in Wireless Hill, South Luffenham, Rutland, on 15 April 2021, while working on behalf of Green Steel and Cladding Ltd, Leicestershire Police said.

He died in hospital the following day, the force added.

A police spokesperson said the company, formerly of Kirkgate, Whaplode, Spalding, was charged with corporate manslaughter.

The company was also charged with four breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Paul Gaines, 58, of Middle Marsh Road, Spalding, has also been charged with gross negligence manslaughter.

Gaines was also charged with two breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Green Steel and Cladding Ltd and Gaines are due to appear at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
