Calf rescued after getting stranded in quarry

A calf has been safely returned to land after it was found stranded in a quarry, rescuers say.

The GSPCA was called to assist the calf at Bordeaux Quarry on Sunday, after concerns were raised by members of the public.

Ambulance and warden driver Luke Roussell attended the incident and found the farmer was already on scene and working to help the animal in a small boat.

Roussell then assisted the farmer in getting the calf back to dry land and made sure it was safe and well after its "unexpected adventure", the charity said.

GSPCA manager Steve Byrne said: "We were very happy to help when the call came in and it's always great when an incident has a positive outcome.

"By the time Luke arrived, the farmer was already assisting the calf and together they were able to get it safely back onto land.

"Thankfully, the calf appeared none the worse for wear after its ordeal and was quickly reunited with the rest of the herd.

"We'd like to thank everyone involved for their quick response."
