Man seriously injured in city centre assault

A man has sustained serious injuries after he was assaulted on a city centre street, police have said.

Gloucestershire Police were called to The Cross on Eastgate Street in Gloucester at about 03:40 BST to reports man had been assaulted by another man.

The victim was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition, the force said.

Officers remain at the scene and are carrying out a forensic examination, it added.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about it is asked to contact police.
