Plans to build 275 homes on the outskirts of a market town have been submitted.

Gleeson Land wants to create the new development in Melksham, Wiltshire, as part of wider plans for 500 properties in the area.

Affordable homes are included in the proposal for the land near Blackmore Farm, although details on the wider design and layout will be revealed at a later stage.

The plans have been submitted to Wiltshire Council. A consultation will close on 26 June.

If the plans are approved, a new T-junction would be created at Sandridge Common, between Blackmore House and Lopes Close.

Under the proposals, about 70% of the land would be green space, with allotments and two new play areas.

Gleeson Land has also proposed new walking and cycle routes as part of the development.

It said trees and other hedgerows on the land would stay, with homes built around them.

Melksham Without Parish Council said it would consider the planning application at a meeting on 22 June.

Gleeson Land's current application aims to get "outline planning permission", which will confirm the principle of development.
