Toilet block to be transformed into yoga studio
Wilmslow Town CouncilA public toilet block in a Cheshire town centre that has been closed for a decade is set to be converted into a community space which could be used for yoga classes.
Wilmslow Town Council (WTC) is taking control of the site on South Drive on a long-term lease from Cheshire East Council and has applied for planning permission to convert it.
WTC said the proposals would allow space for meetings, exhibitions and yoga classes as well as having public toilet facilities.
The town council said it had allocated £285,000 for the project which would also include works to the area around the block.
CGI images for the proposals show plans for two accessible toilets that would be accessed from the outside of the building and a further one accessed from inside.
The block was closed by Cheshire East Council more than a decade ago and WTC's mayor Sally Harrison said the site had been empty for too long and was "a blot" on the town centre.
"We have a thriving town with an increasing number of successful events attracting more and more people who require modern facilities," she said.
"Through the transfer of this building from Cheshire East Council, Wilmslow Town Council is investing in a vibrant community space that will enhance the visitor experience while providing high-quality facilities for local residents."
Cheshire East Council has been approached for comment.
