Police chief appointed to chair Opera House board
BBCJersey's Chief Officer of Police Robin Smith has been appointed as the chair of Jersey Opera House.
He said the Opera House "plays a uniquely important role in bringing people together and enriching our shared cultural life".
It reopened last year after a £12.7m five-year refurbishment to mark its 125th anniversary and Smith said it was entering "a new and exciting phase".
The arts venue's chief executive officer Sebastian Warrack said Smith "brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of Jersey and its communities".
He will succeed interim chair Laura Robertson who took on the role in 2025 and oversaw the building's reopening and appointment of the new chief executive.
The Opera House launched its search for a new chair in March and said the role would initially "require around eight days per month".
The curtain rose in 2025 on two special concerts to mark Liberation Day after the venue's refurbishment, and there was a three-night gala in the autumn called Encore! Welcome Home marking the full reopening.
