Plans to replace demolished homes with a new housing development are set to be approved.

Believe Housing wants to redevelop land in Newton Hall, Durham, to replace 22 homes which were knocked down after being deemed unfit for purpose.

The proposed development would replace the former properties on a one-for-one basis and would include bungalows and a mix of houses with a minimum of two bedrooms.

Durham County Council has received six objections from residents with concerns on parking provision and pressure on surrounding streets, but City of Durham Trust said it supported the new builds which would replace "poor stock".

Planning documents show access to the development would be from Farnham Road, with each home having off-street parking.

In its planning statement, Believe Housing said: "The current parking situation at the site is that all vehicles have to park on the street, whereas the proposed development will be significantly improved by providing in-curtilage off-street parking spaces for all properties."

Additional visitor parking bays are also proposed to help ease pressure on nearby roads, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The application, which is recommended for approval, is due to be discussed by Durham County Council's planning committee next week.
