Police have found a body after searching a lake for a teenage boy who reportedly went missing after going swimming.

Officers were called at about 15:30 BST on Tuesday to Hawley Lake near Farnborough, on the border of Hampshire and Surrey.

The body has not been formally identified but the teenager's family have been informed, police said.

A police helicopter, drone units, police divers and the fire service were involved in the search.

In a statement, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: "Following a multi-agency search for a missing teenager in Hawley Lake near Blackwater, we can confirm a body has been recovered this afternoon.

"A file will now be prepared for the coroner."

Previously the force said the boy was last seen seen swimming in the water.

Police were called to Hawley Lake on Tuesday afternoon

The lake, which includes Hawley Lake Sail Training Centre, has been closed.

The centre said that some of its staff had been involved in the search, and that it was saddened to hear a body had been found.

"The incident was unrelated to activities of the club, but out of respect for the family we chose to close the site today," it said.

The school said it would be reopening on Thursday, but only for its members.

"We are taking a pause on casual non-member equipment hire and day memberships until Monday," it added.

Local MP Alex Baker said she was "deeply saddened" by the tragedy and that her thoughts were with the boy's family at "this devastating time".

She thanked the emergency services for their "swift and dedicated response" to the incident, before urging people to "please look after yourselves and those around you in this heat, especially around open water".

"I know our community will come together to share our condolences at this incredibly painful time," the Labour MP for Aldershot and Farnborough added.
