Police sergeant charged with off-duty assault

A police officer has been charged with assault and intentional strangulation.

Sgt Edward Howard is due to appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court on 9 June.

West Yorkshire Police said Howard had been "removed from frontline policing and placed on restricted duties".

According to police, Howard, who is based in the Bradford district, has been charged with offences relating to an incident while off-duty on 10 November 2025 in Kirklees.
