Carpool karaoke star Ted dies at the age of 90
An 90-year-old man who became an internet star when his son posted videos of him singing in the car, has died.
Former Butlin's Redcoat Ted McDermott, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2013, spent decades entertaining people in pubs and clubs.
Known online as The Songaminute Man, videos of his carpool karaoke were watched by millions on YouTube as they drove around Blackburn in Lancashire, singing Quando, Quando, Quando.
His son Simon said Ted died on Friday and he was "heartbroken at his loss".
Simon McDermott"Despite being frail the last few months, his last day was just a normal day with his normal routine," Simon said on Facebook.
"After tea, I got him to bed as usual, hugged him, 'see you tomorrow dad' and turned off the light.
"If only I knew.
"He was so loved by us all. We shall miss him dearly."
The father and son duo, from Clitheroe, raised almost £130,000 for the Alzheimer's Society, signed a record deal and received a Pride of Britain Award in 2016.
Simon said singing the songs, while driving around Blackburn, helped his father cope with his dementia.
Ted had difficulty recognising his son, but remembered the lyrics of several songs.
