The lease for the Market Hall in Carlisle is back on the market

The lease to run a city's market hall is up for sale again, less than 18 months after it was bought by new owners.

Bearmont Group, which acquired Carlisle Market Hall and Eden Centre in December 2024, has announced it is placing the lease on the market.

The company, which specialises in property regeneration, carried out work on the building since the acquisition, including creating a new food court, roof and facade repairs and refurbishment of the toilets.

It was also behind the opening of a B&M shop in the former Wilko unit, which had been empty for two years.

Cumberland Council, which holds a sublease of the market hall, provided a grant to help with cost of the works.

Bearmont Group's CEO Rob Lloyd said he was proud of the changes made to an "important historic building".

"Bearmont Group's model is to identify assets that have lost their way, invest in them, and create the platform for long-term success," he explained.

"I've personally got to know a lot of the stallholders over the past 18 months, and I've been genuinely passionate about this building and its history."

Bearmont said it had appointed company Savills to deal with the sale, expected to take place by 20 May.
