Light Night set to provide storytelling spectacle

One of Leeds' most recognisable buildings will be brought to life for a celebration of storytelling during the city's 20th Light Night festival.

Artwork delving into the realm of fiction and fairy tales will be projected onto the front of the Queens Hotel during the two-night spectacle.

The artists behind the installation, called The Bookbinder, took inspiration from the vast collection of images belonging to the British Library.

Leeds City Council called the free event, held on 24 and 25 October, the UK’s largest annual arts and light festival.

Illuminos, made up of video projection artists Matt and Rob Vale, created the story by drawing on images from the library's Flickr Commons collection.

Marking two decades of Light Night Leeds, the event will feature other large-scale projections, live street theatre and interactive installations incorporating some of the city's most recognisable locations.

Councillor Salma Arif, the council’s executive member for adult social care, active lifestyles and culture, said: “Light Night is always an incredible spectacle which transforms the city and brings thousands of people together to experience something truly special."
