Man charged with murder after woman's death

A man has been charged with murder following the death of a woman in Surrey last year.

Surrey Police said officers attended Imtech House on Woodthorpe Road, Ashford, on 16 January 2025 after a safety concern report.

A 27-year-old woman and a young child were found at the address with "very serious injuries", the force added.

The woman, Laleh Zarejouneghani, was pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of police and paramedics to treat her, it said.

The child was taken to hospital, but later discharged.

Surrey Police confirmed in February Zarejouneghani's cause of death was a stab wound to the neck.

A 35-year-old man - named by police as dual British-Iranian national Milad Ghafari - was initially arrested that day.

Surrey Police said on Thursday he has now been charged with murder, attempted murder, and inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.

He is due to appear at Guildford Magistrates' Court the same day.
