Farm owners 'overwhelmed' by field fire help

Owners of a campsite on the North Yorkshire coast have said they are "overwhelmed" by the kindness shown after fire broke out on their land.

The blaze, which involved crops in a field off Bridlington Road in Hunmanby, near Filey, started at about 18:00 BST on Tuesday and covered about 20 acres (eight hectares), according to North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service (NYFRS).

At its height, six fire crews were at the scene, with local farmers using water bowsers to prevent the blaze spreading further.

The owners of Graffitoe Farm Campsite said: "A huge thank you to everyone who has sent messages, offered help and checked in on us. Your support has meant so much."

NYFRS said crews had remained at the scene late on Tuesday damping down hotspots, and were due to revisit on Wednesday.

The farm owners said: "We'd also like to say an enormous thank you to the fire crews who worked tirelessly to bring the fire under control, and to the incredible farming community.

"Seeing so many tractors arriving in our fields, ready to help however they could, was truly humbling. It reminded us just how amazing our local community is.

"Thankfully, everyone is safe and well, and for that we are incredibly grateful.

"From the bottom of our hearts, thank you."
