A man is in a critical condition with serious head injuries after an assault in Ashford, police have said.

Kent Police said emergency services were called to Lower High Street shortly after 05:10 BST, where the man was found injured near a water fountain and St Johns Lane alleyway.

The man, aged in his 30s, was taken by ambulance to a London hospital, the force said.

A police cordon was put in place between Wellesley Road and North Street while officers carried out inquiries.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact Kent Police or Crimestoppers.
