The A31 has been closed in both directions after a two-vehicle crash led to a van fire.

Dorset Police said it had received reports of a collision involving a car and a van at Canford Bottom Roundabout, near Wimborne, just before 13:00 BST.

The van caught fire, one person sustained minor injuries and officers are searching for the driver of the car, who fled the scene.

Police are being supported by fire and ambulance crews and the A31 has been shut between the Canford Bottom Roundabout and Merley Roundabout.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Wimborne, Redhill and Poole along with their water carrier had attended the incident.

It was brought under control within one hour by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatuses and using hose reel jets, the service said.

The crash comes one month after a van fire on the A31 in the New Forest led to a wildfire across an area of more than 100 hectares.
