Bathing waters 'excellent' in latest testing
BBCBathing waters have been classified as "excellent" a week after tests highlighted bacteria issues in some areas.
Infrastructure and Environment (I&E) said all of its 16 bays in Jersey were tested over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday as part of routine checks.
It followed tests on 18 and 19 May, when samples taken at Plemont in Grouville, Harve des Pas and Victoria Pool in St Aubin's Bay identified "unacceptable levels of bacteria in seawater" due to recent heavy rain.
The government reminded people of Public Health guidance to avoid entering the sea for at least 48 hours after periods of rainfall, when run-off could temporarily affect water quality.
An excellent water quality result indicates the sample meets less than or equal to 250 Eschericia coil per 100ml (0.1l) and less than or equal to 100 Intestinal enterococci per 100ml.
I&E said beaches on the island were sampled weekly from 11 May to 22 September for bacteriological quality.
It said seawater monitoring also provided an important indication of conditions and reflected water quality at the time of sampling.
