Two 17-year-old boys have life-threatening injuries after a crash that left a total of six people needing hospital treatment.

The pair were in the front seats of a Ford Fiesta travelling on Saltburn Lane towards the A174, north of Skelton-in-Cleveland, when it collided with a Toyota Corolla going in the opposite direction at 16:45 BST on Saturday.

A 15-year-old boy in the back of the Fiesta suffered a broken leg while a fourth passenger, an 18-year-old male, was checked over for cuts and shock.

The Toyota driver, a 54-year-old man, had minor injuries while an 18-year-old woman also in that car was checked over by medics

All six were taken to Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital.

Cleveland Police said the road had to be closed for several hours as the casualties were taken away and officers inspected the scene.

It is asking anyone with information to contact the force.
