Boardmasters hailed a success by organisers

Boardmasters organisers have said this year's festival was "everything we could have dreamed of" as plans for 2027 get under way.

Organisers said a cumulative 158,000 surf and music fans attended the event in Newquay, Cornwall, over five days between 5 and 9 August - an increase of 8% on the year before.

Fatboy Slim, Lily Allen and Kasabian were among the headliners at Watergate Bay with thousands also in attendance at the Boardmasters Open surf competition at Fistral Beach.

Festival director Rob Spring said the "incredible music, world-class surfing and that unmistakable Cornish spirit and sunshine that makes this festival what it is".

He added his team was "already excited to get started on 2027" which is "shaping up to be our biggest year yet".

In March a Cornwall Council committee allowed Boardmasters to increase sound levels and have a fourth day of live music but capacity, hours and site layout remained unchanged in 2026.

Some residents had raised concerns around noise levels but festival director Rob Spring said the changes were needed to ensure the "customer experience is at levels expected of major international festivals, without creating a nuisance for neighbours".

The changes were approved under the condition that any music between 01:00 and 04:00 on Thursdays to Saturdays, and on Sundays from 23:45 to 04:00, should not be readily audible at monitoring locations.

The festival will return to Cornwall from 4-8 August 2027.
