Two charged over large cannabis seizure after port police 'detect smell' from van
PA MediaTwo men have been charged over a large seizure of herbal cannabis after police carrying out vehicle checks at a ferry port "detected a smell" coming from a van.
Officers were checking vehicles about to board a ferry from Cairnryan in Dumfries and Galloway to Northern Ireland at about 07:15 on Friday morning.
Police Scotland said that officers, after noticing the odour, discovered the drugs worth about £375,000 within the vehicle.
The force said that two man, aged 43 and 18, were arrested and charged over the incident and are due to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Monday.
Inquiries remain ongoing.
A spokesperson said: "This was a substantial recovery which highlights our continued commitment to disrupting drug activity and supply that aim to abuse our sea ports."
