Wet weather warning for drivers from fire crews

Firefighters are warning drivers to take care on the road as the weather becomes wetter after a driver hit a tree in Leicester.

Emergency services were called to Spencefield Lane at about 02:30 BST on Saturday after a vehicle left the road and hit a tree, leading to the driver being taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said the car's roof was removed "to allow a safe extrication of the driver".

The service advised drivers to avoid going through flooded roads, take care if going through standing water, and adapt to the conditions when travelling in inclement weather.

"With the change to very wet weather conditions please take your time and drive [and] give yourself more time to react while driving," the fire service said.

"Reduced visibility and wet roads will increase your stopping distance in the event of an accident."
