A public hearing into the alleged gross misconduct of a chief constable is scheduled to begin next week.

Rod Hansen of Gloucestershire Constabulary was suspended in October 2024 after allegations relating to a data breach.

It is alleged that he did not sufficiently act on information passed to him in October 2022 regarding a staff member suspected of carrying out an unauthorised search of police systems – and accessing third party personal data – following a road traffic collision.

He is also alleged to have given a false or misleading statement during an investigation into the data breach. Hansen, whose hearing will take place in Cheltenham from 16 July, denies any wrongdoing.

The investigation into the data breach, by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), was completed in August 2025.

It concluded that Hansen had a case to answer for gross misconduct.

Although Hansen was suspended in October 2024, the suspension was later lifted to allow him to take up a redeployment role with the National Police Chiefs' Council.

However, he was suspended again in May 2025 after receiving a second misconduct notice concerning allegations that he improperly involved himself in the recruitment of a member of staff.

In March 2026, this second misconduct accusation was dropped after the IOPC determined Hansen had "no case to answer".

Next week's public hearing is being held at the University of Gloucestershire's Park Campus in Cheltenham, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Proceedings are scheduled to run on weekdays until 24 July, although the hearing could conclude earlier or be extended.
