Ma France - Tips 16 & 17 - B & B and Holidays

Bonjour !

After Lyons, a change of scene and the next couple of units will really put you in holiday mood. As well as learning how to say what you’ve done and seen and where you’ve been, you will also hear about the pretty villages and sights to visit around Marseilles and find out about winter holiday activities in the Alps.

  • Tip 16 :

Unit 16 To practise using these expressions, look at your holiday photos and relive the experience. Say what you did: j’ai visité Paris, j’ai vu la Tour Eiffel, j’ai bien aimé le Louvre, j’ai fait une promenade le long de la Seine. From the dialogues and vocabulary notes you’ll learn a good number of adjectives to describe places too, so you can say more: Paris était magnifique, les monuments étaient très beaux.
It’s great to stay in a chambre d’hôte when you’re on holiday; there are far more opportunities to use your French and your host or hostess will be happy to tell you about the area. Over breakfast and dinner it’s easy to strike up a conversation and who knows, you might make new lifelong friends.

  • Tip 17 :

Unit 17 You will notice that some verbs use avoir to make the perfect tense, e.g. j’ai visité and some use être, e.g. je suis allé. To practise this, play a game with a map of France. Pick a place and say, a. that you’ve been there, and b. what you did.

Je suis allé à Lyon, j’ai vu un bouchon traditionnel.

Je suis allé à Marseille, j’ai visité le vieux port.
