Dundee United's Zac Sapsford was man of the match
Dundee United eased to victory over Arbroath to keep alive their hopes of qualifying from the Premier Sports Cup group stage.
Jim Goodwin's side suffered a surprise defeat by third-tier Montrose on Tuesday.
But Zac Sapsford curled a fine drive home shortly before the break against the Championship visitors after a through ball from Idjessi Metsoko.
The striker came close to a second just after half-time when he sneaked behind the Arbroath defence and his shot deflected off the body of goalkeeper McAdams and looked to be heading over the line before on-loan Viktoria Plzen forward Metsoko made sure.
Fellow summer signing Lachlan Rose slotted the third to end any hopes of an unlikely Arbroath comeback.
The win means United lead Group B on goal difference from Montrose, but the League 1 side have played a game fewer, although Goodwin's side will be confident of another three points when fourth-tier Spartans arrive at Tannadice on Tuesday.
