| Leftover Supper | Page 5 of 5 |
Minty We first cooked this supper for Anthony Wakeley-Smith ('Tony') who you'll know better as the Bishop of Oxford. I asked him to say grace but he said he'd 'clocked off' for the day and very kindly offered me the chance to say it for him. It was an honour but also frightening and I didn't manage to say all the things God would have wanted me to. So now I've had the chance to work on it a bit I'd like to offer you the chance to say it with your own supper. It's not usual to include a prayer in a recipe but I feel it's both appopriate and classy:Lord, thank you for the gift of preparing beautiful food to eat unto you tonight. For the pugliese, thank you. For the chicken, thank you. For the vinegar, thank you. For the flaked almonds, watercress, pepper, salt, parsnip, butter and lettuce hearts, thank you again. And we do not forget the tarragon, Lord. For, Lord, we know you agree it's the little things that counteth. And, finally, thank you for the money with which we are blessed to spend on the finest ingredients available at source in your kingdom. Amen.
