FaithYou are in: Tees > Faith > The egg-citement of Easter ![]() Have an eggs-citing Easter! The egg-citement of EasterBy Mark Turnbull BBC Radio Cleveland's Sunday Breakfast Show presenter, Mark Turnbull, wonders if some people think Easter is just about chocolate eggs ... Its 09.45 Easter Sunday morn and I'm just tucking in to a chocolate Easter egg. It's my first this year, and, it's delicious. Unfortunately, the mountains of chocolate which tempt us from just after Christmas, egg-shaped, animal shaped or whatever, could be the only meaning of this great festival for many this Easter. They've chosen to ignore the greatest news story which ever occurred in this world - the death and resurrection of our redeemer. Or, maybe they don't know about it? Maybe, we, who inhabit church or chapel are too busy with our religion to go out and share the fact that the sting was taken out of death, and the door was opened to paradise for all through that first Good Friday and Easter. In fact, I am convinced that if we Christians had been strong enough, and, been prepared to shout about the resurrection truth then fewer people would believe the tissue of untruths which make up the best selling Da Vinci code. Oh yes; they are happy to be whisked along an avenue of strung-together half-truths; and, indeed, it could be said they prefer to believe these than the reality. So let me just lay it on the line for you. Christ's physical resurrection from the dead is not a man-made scheme, or scam; it isn't even part of a religion; it is the essential element for all of us who profess ourselves as Christians. Professing Christianity without resurrection is nothing more than foolishness. Christianity itself rises or falls on the reality of Christ's resurrection. And the egg-citement of Easter for me is he is alive and well, and at work in our world. Go to a local church and let them prove it to you. Surely, a tastier treat for Easter Sunday you couldn't wish for?
