Pete Wild's first game in charge of Hartlepool ended in a defeat at home by Tamworth – their ninth loss in 10 matches.
Wild was brought in to replace Lee Clark, who resigned after a woeful start to a campaign it was hoped would be a positive one for the north east club.
Pools had the chance to start his era strongly when they were awarded a first-half penalty, but Jack Nolan's effort was saved by Tamworth goalkeeper Rhys Lovett.
The visitors then took the lead three minutes before the break as Kieren Donnelly raced clear and slotted in his seventh goal of the season.
The home side came close to an equaliser late on as Jamie Miley's corner was met by defender Reiss McNally but his effort was cleared off the line.
