Alex Lankshear's own goal proved decisive as Worthing won at Gateshead – a ninth defeat in 10 National League games for Lee Cattermole's strugglers.

The visitors took the lead in the 19th minute at Gateshead International Stadium when Jack Wadham headed in Jack Young's cross.

Former Boston striker Jordy Hiwula gave Gateshead hope 10 minutes later when he scored his first goal since joining the club last month.

However, Worthing won it in fortunate circumstances in the 71st minute when Gateshead defender Lankshear diverted Bailey Smith's centre past goalkeeper Pete Jameson and into his own net.

The win lifted Adam Hinshelwood's team into the top five, while Gateshead remain rooted at the bottom, having picked up just one point from the last 30 available.
