| | Ridleys as we know it today began life when Thomas Dixon Ridley married Lydia Wells in 1841 who came from a brewing family in Chelmsford, within a year Thomas Dixon had built his own brewery. By his death in 1882 Thomas Dixon had already established a chain of inns. By 1906 the business became a limited company.
