Continuing the Christmas series of highlights from the summer Proms.
Polish composer Henryck Górecki's mesmerising symphony of songs was heard at the Proms for the first time. Its three movements each paint a picture of a mother's sorrow over a lost child - the Virgin Mary's lamentation at the foot of the cross; 18-year old Second World War prisoner Helena Wanda Blazusiakówna's secret cell wall writings; and a peasant mother's mourning over the loss of her soldier son in the First World War.
Presented by Warwick Thompson, recorded at the Royal Albert Hall.
