Britain's Arthur Fery continued his outstanding Wimbledon run with a thrilling five-set comeback victory over Grigor Dimitrov to reach the quarter-finals and make history.

Fery has been the only British player left in either singles draw since the second round and kept home hopes alive with a dramatic 7-5 3-6 4-6 6-4 7-6 (10-7) victory in front of an enraptured Centre Court.

World number 114 Fery, making his debut on Wimbledon's biggest stage just a short walk from where he grew up, showed remarkable character and resilience throughout to achieve the biggest win of his career.

He secured that by holding his nerve to clinch a deciding 10-point tie-break, having twice fought back from a break of serve down in the fourth set.

The 23-year-old is the first British wildcard to reach a Grand Slam quarter-final and the lowest-ranked player to reach the men's last eight at Wimbledon for 12 years.

At the end of it all, Fery stood on Centre Court with his hands on his hips, shaking his head in sheer disbelief as the crowd rose to their feet.

Swiss great Roger Federer, watching from the Royal Box, was among the thousands inside Wimbledon's centre stage living each point of a captivating conclusion.

To beat Grigor Dimitrov he’s now a Wimbledon quarter-finalist. Fery's life no doubt will change right now. To be a British player out on Centre Court and have that type of victory it certainly transforms his ranking going forward.

He can enjoy this moment for the next half an hour or hour but then it’s very much about getting your feet back down to earth, your team around you, analysing what went well and what things you’ll take away from playing on Centre Court for the first time.

To beat Grigor Dimitrov, to come through and break him three times, only the sixth British man in the Open Era to make the quarter-finals, this is a fairy tale story, he is the real deal.

Let's not forget that he beat Cobolli in the Australian open, earlier this year. The fairy tale could continue.

I'm so pleased for Arthur Fery, with that injury he had last year as well. I remember being on the practice court with him, he could only hit 80 serves in a two-hour practice. For a two-set match, you have to hit at least 250 serves to be ready. He couldn't actually fulfill a full match in practice, his body and elbow wouldn't allow him.

To come back from that position in a year is phenomenal. That shows you resilience, that shows you belief, that shows you have good people around you.

I'm so, so proud of him.

What an absolutely brilliant win for Fery today. He really showed what battling for a win means. Five star performance, you should be very proud of yourself. You deserve what you get and you certainly did that today. Congratulations.

Hats off to both players. The intensity and tension for 3hrs 55mins. Incredible. Fery just had that little bit extra, je ne sais quoi, today. He was a delight to watch as he picked himself up from the tough moments and kept on fighting. Wonderful tennis from incredible players.

Arthur Fery's best advantage is the fact there is no pressure, it's his first experience of playing at Wimbledon, and he is just living his best life. No expectations is such freedom to just go for it. Good luck to him on Wednesday, I have booked the day off.

    Lehecka v Zverev

The last match of the day on Centre Court has just started as Czech 13th seed Jiri Lehecka is up against Germany's Alexander Zverev, who finally gained his first Grand Slam title, after a few near misses, at the French Open in May. The curfew is 23:00 BST so that might not get completed tonight.

American Taylor Fritz awaits the winner in the quarter-final and the winner of that would meet either Flavio Cobolli or Arthur Fery in the semi-finals.

There has just been a great shot of the Royal Box. All the seats are empty, apart from one tennis fanatic - a certain Roger Federer. Loves the game. Just loves it.

Last British man standing, I feel like he has a shot.

He's going to be there for the first ball to the last ball. His competitive spirit has been second to none.

Not only will the money make a difference, it's the ranking points.

He can play the schedule he wants, he's guaranteed to get into the bigger competitions which have more prize money.

Arthur Fery has singlehandedly saved the LTA from a lot of criticism I think.

This is a moment for him. He's competing hard and had nothing to show for it. It's just an incredible springboard and opportunity for him. The atmosphere on Centre Court is something that he'll never forget.

  18. 'Fery poses a lot of different questions' - Murraypublished at 20:42 BST

BBC pundit Jamie Murray was asked earlier by Jacob West from Leeds how Arthur Fery’s game could match up against quarter-final opponent Flavio Cobolli.

    Here's what Jamie thinks:

“That’s a great question. He would still start the match as underdog given the difference in ranking and experience, and Cobolli having just coming off the final at Roland Garros, but I think Arthur has proven to be a great grass court player and poses a lot of different questions to players.

“He’s not afraid to come forward, he’s approached the net more than anybody in this tournament. He asks different questions, asks players to come up with passing shots at regularity and Cobolli will have to be on guard at being rushed.

“Arthur likes to take time away from his opponents - not necessarily through pure power in his game and in his shots, but more in his court awareness, court craft, coming forward, seeing his opponents off balance and rushing the net, ghosting in, crush and rush on the return, but also the ability to build his points.

“But he’s also quick to see his opponents off balance and he uses that opportunity to move forward and finish the point at the net.”

    It's confidence, it's swagger, it's belief.

If you look at the two players' careers, Dimitrov has always buckled at the big moments. Fery stood tall, took advantage and said 'I'm going to find a way, I'm going to find a solution'. He deserves everything he got here today.

He's got a shot at the semi-finals with this crowd, with this attitude, boy I'm excited. I'm so, so proud of him.

  20. 'It's a dream' - Ferypublished at 20:38 BST

    Dimitrov 5-7 6-3 6-4 4-6 6-7 (7-10) Fery

Arthur Fery is speaking after his remarkable victory over Grigor Dimitrov

On how he feels: “Where to start. I have no words right now, it’s tough to put into words on this tennis court, in front of all you guys, the support was phenomenal."

On putting that win into words: “I’m not going to swear, that would be a problem. First time on this court, five sets against an absolute legend of the game, I grew up five minutes from here, I grew up coming to watch matches on this court. We’ve got probably the greatest of all time watching over there [Roger Federer], I saw him and now playing here in front of all you guys and winning and having the support is unbelievable.”

On coming back from adversity during the match again: “It’s been the story of the tournament for me, I was really close to losing in the last round and again today. A break down in the fourth, just trying to keep fighting, to have a good attitude and it paid off. I played really well with my back against the wall and it paid off today.”

On his dream run at Wimbledon: “No I couldn’t have imagined it. A week ago I would have been happy to win a few matches here, and now winning four, being in the quarters, it’s a dream.“
