And that's your PGA Tour season done and dusted for another year.

But the golf doesn't stop here.

Europe are unbeaten on home soil since 2015 and will be looking to win back the trophy they lost in Virgina in 2024.

It is a 22nd victory on the PGA Tour, and he ends the season the way he started it, with a victory.

"When you look over the course of the season I'm proud of fighting back from some poor starts," he said on Sky Sports, referring to some of his early season form.

"It's a privilege to be out here so I'm always going to give it my all.

"Days like today are really fun when you come from behind. It's a cool feeling.

"I tend to keep my head down and stay in my lane but when I do win it's great to celebrate with the fans and my family."

Who wants to hear what Scottie has to say?

Of course you do.

But first PGA Tour chief executive Brian Rolapp has the obligatory thank-yous to get through...

..he's mercifully short and Scottie has his hands on the trophy.

For Scottie Scheffler, that's an extra $10m (£7.4m) to add to the bank balance.

And that will move Scheffler above Tiger Woods to the top of the PGA Tour career earnings money list. Woods had been top of that list for about 25 years and had amassed $120m.

Scheffler is now at $130m.

Here's Viktor to finish his week. The ball is in the hole. It's a disappointing two-over-par 72 but Hovland is $5m richer for finishing runner-up.

And Ryan Gerard's ball also drops into the cup for a 72. He will finish third and earn $3.7m.

Viktor Hovland plays a lovely escape from the sand, his ball coming to rest about six feet from the hole. It's a downhiller for a par finish.

But first Ryan Gerard is lining up his outside birdie try. He gives the ball a thump with his putter but it's not enough. He'll have five feet to save par.

And last up the 18th are Viktor Hovland and Ryan Gerard.

Hovland smashes his third shot from around 240 yards into a greenside bunker.

Gerard, who also had to chop sideways out of the rough, finds the green with his third shot and will have a 50-footer to finish on a high.

There is a tournament to tie up before the celebrations can really start. Ludvig Aberg rolls in a four-footer for birdie on the 18th, while Adam Scott's week ends with a par.

The camera cuts to Scottie Scheffler, who is with his young son Bennett. Scheffler removes his cap from his head and puts it over the camera.

The tournament is done, it's family time for the world number one.

In fact, Viktor's ball is so badly buried in the lush grass he's out with a wedge.

And this is just a chop out sideways for the Norwegian, who advances his ball about 20 yards.

And that means Scottie Scheffler joins Tiger Woods as a two-time winner of the FedEx Cup. Only Rory McIlroy has won more, with three.

Viktor Hovland lets rip down the 18th and his ball bounds down the fairway. He's got a little too much of that though and the ball buries itself in the deep rough.

He's not holing his second shot from there.

Scottie Scheffler is smiling as signs his scorecard. Six birdies and two bogeys for the world number one, who serenely plotted his way round East Lake today.

It was the joint lowest round of the day, with England's Alex Fitzpatrick.

The equation is simple for Viktor Hovland. Hit the fairway with your drive down the 18th and then hole your second shot for an albatross two.

Here's Scottie Scheffler to win the FedEx Cup for a second time...

...he's not hit it. The putt pulls up six inches short. Not that Scottie will care too much.

The par, coupled with Hovland's bogey means he leads by three.

Viktor Hovland knows this is all but over. His par putt, like so many today, is struck with great pace but the line is slightly off. As a lag putt, it's excellent. But when you need to hole one, it's not.

Bogey.

Another mistake by Viktor Hovland and this could be terminal.

He's trying a flop shot from the thick stuff and gets it all wrong. His ball comes out clean enough but has zero roll and pulls up a good 30 feet short of the hole.

If he misses that and Scheffler holes for birdie on 18, it's goodnight.

Up on the last, Scheffler is out with a wedge, from 133 yards. One good swing and the title is surely his.

Ooohhh... a bit of noise from behind distracts him. "Get back in," says Ted Scott to his man, as course marshals try to keep the crowd in check.

Scheffler does "get back in" and fires his ball a dozen feet from the pin. Birdie chance coming up.

Uh-oh. Huge mistake from Viktor Hovland. He knows it as soon as he's hit his second shot into the 17th. It's just a lob wedge but he's pinged that a good 15 yards over the flag and the ball does not stay on the green, wandering off down a slope.

Is that game over for the Norwegian?

Ted Scott is earning his corn here. He's out with the yardage book as he and Scottie Scheffler discuss their options.

The smart play would perhaps be to lay up, particularly with a huge pond in front of him.

Scottie does exactly that. Gouging his ball out of the cabbage and back on to the fairway.

Chris Gotterup, from the fairway, is having a crack at this. He urges his ball to go. It doesn't listen. Greenside bunker.
