Plymouth Argyle midfielder Joe Ralls could be fit to return for the League One play-offs, should the club finish in the top six.

The experienced 32-year-old has been out since January with a hamstring injury which needed surgery.

The former Cardiff City player joined Argyle on a short-term deal in September and extended his stay until the end of the season, making 11 appearances and scoring one goal.

Head coach Tom Cleverley said Ralls has been an important part of his squad, even when he has been on the sidelines.

"He'll be back for the first week in May, so whether he plays for us again or not is in our hands," he said.

"In the regular season Rallsy won't be fit to play, but we'll be having conversations with Rallsy about what the future looks like and he brings value even when he's injured.

"We all want to see him out there on the pitch, but trust me, he's got influence in that dressing room to keep driving this forward still."

Plymouth Argyle midfielder Brendan Wiredu will be out for four weeks after having abdominal surgery.

The 26-year-old has been playing with an issue for the past few weeks

"He's putting himself through everything," head coach Tom Cleverley said.

"He can perform to a certain level, it's just that top-end explosive movements that are causing him real pain.

"It's a fairly straightforward abdominal procedure that he'll have that will put him out for four weeks."

The injury leaves Argyle light in midfield with loanee Herbie Kane unable to play against parent club Huddersfield Town on Saturday and Bradley Ibrahim also out.

The club have recalled Caleb Roberts from his loan spell at National League club Truro City to cover the position.

Cleverley will also make late calls on the fitness of top scorer Lorent Tolaj, midfielder Caleb Watts and defender Wes Harding before Saturday's clash with the Terriers at Home Park.
