Did I watch the match? No. I'm not a football fan. But I'll tell you what. I woke up at around 6, looked at the BBC app, saw the result... and... I cried. Yes, I burst into tears. How's that for a 79 year old non-fan (in Manchester! Football city!)

I'm an 82 year old nana and I set the alarm and stayed awake to watch the most exciting game I've ever seen. A game that kept me awake and wondering what would happen next. Well done to the team, I'm a proud nana today.

From the "Hand Of God" to the "Gloves Of Pickford". Seems rather ironic and poetic that one of the main standout performers was our goalkeeper 40 years later considering what happened in 1986. Thanks Azteca, we're even now and what a game to do it in! Credit to Mexico too.

Football is meaningless really, in the scheme of things, but it can come to represent so much to so many people for completely different reasons.
When watching these World cup moments it is impossible not to think of the people who are no longer with us, who we would so love to share this with.
Glad to hear you were able to get some respite Mary, even for just a couple of hours.

My sister died last month and her funeral was on Friday. During this match, it felt like I was able to stop time - put grieving on hold for 2 hours. Can’t remember a better England performance. Back to reality now, but very grateful for the respite.

It's incredibly unfortunate for Quansah.
He made his World Cup debut against Ghana and had to come off in the second half after rolling his ankle.
He had another opportunity today and unfortunately for him he is going to be suspended for the quarter final against Norway.
I don't think it was the wrong decision. When you watch it in the cold light of day, he's gone over the top of the ball...
Thomas Tuchel did complain slightly after the game that he thought it was perhaps a bit harsh and it wasn't the right call but I don't know.
Yes he has got the ball but he's gone in high on his opponent and more often than not those are red cards.

Alan Shearer said that he did not agree with the penalty given to Mexico via VAR, which he believed did not follow the pattern of similar interventions earlier in the tournament.
Referee Alireza Faghani would go on to feel the wrath of England manager Thomas Tuchel - more on that later - but BBC Sport pundit Joe Harte believed that every one of the key decisions made in the match was correct.
Both Harry Kane and Raul Jimenez dealt with the pressure superbly to put away the resulting penalties.
With tempers frazzled Nico O'Reilly was accused of elbowing an opponent before the hydration break.
Djed Spence and Dan Burn replaced O'Reilly and Elliot Anderson as England went five at the back for the remainder of the game, which would include 11 agonising minutes of stoppage time.

I never watch football but all the excitement around the match meant that when I woke up and checked the time during the night I also checked the score to find us 0-2 up and I couldn’t stop watching thereon in! Hooked!

Not normally a football fan but so glad I stayed up for the England v Mexico match.The England squad had so much to deal with, the temperature, being over 7000 feet above sea level and a hostile crowd. Just brilliant England.

Jarell Quansah's red card was followed quickly by Harry Kane's sixth goal of the tournament, the England captain slotting home from the spot after Anthony Gordon had been brought down in the penalty area.
Harry Kane's 14th goal at a World Cup was also his sixth in the knockout stages, equalling Gary Lineker's tally.
It put 10-man England in a better position, leading 3-1 with 30 minutes of normal time remaining.
But Kane would not have to wait long before having another impact in the box...the wrong box...

Jarell Quansah became the fourth England player to be sent off at the World Cup, after Ray Wilkins in 1986 vs Morocco, David Beckham in 1998 vs Argentina, and Wayne Rooney in 2006 vs Portugal.

The Mexico bench reacted angrily and the referee was beckoned over to watch Jarell Quansah's tackle on the pitchside screen.
His studs were up as he slid over the top of the ball.
"The right-back curse has struck again," says BBC One commentator Guy Mowbray, while Alan Shearer says he does not think Quansah can have any complaints about the decision...

He’s going to be the guy who takes the game by the scruff of the neck when called upon.

I thought Morgan Rogers' performances this season have been unbelievable. Tuchel really likes him.
But wow, Bellingham knows what to do in international football. He just steps it up another gear.
His energy... he did some ridiculous skill where he took it round four players at one point. He seemed untouchable.
He seems to thrive in an England shirt and that atmosphere.
Everything coming together, his runs, his connection, his fluidity, those two goals... but I think his work rate and his team ethos really stood out to me if anything.
