It is one of the greatest results in England's World Cup history. Mexico do not lose here. Not on their patch. Not in their temple. They DO tonight.

A first ever win against a host nation. A first ever win in this arena - 40 years on from the 'Hand of God', the hands of fate have smiled this time.

    Three Lions, 26 heroes.

Nobody should ever have that much drama at four in the morning.

My wife said watch the highlights. Couldn’t do it. I’m 53, I remember Spain 82’. I actually enjoyed watching some of it. My 7 year old lad gets up in a minute. Can’t wait to show him the highlights. Very proud of that team tonight.

    Jamie, Winchester

That ranks with Cameroon in Italia 90 for World Cup drama. A proud dad watching it with my 15 year old lad. Memories were made.

No-one was more proud of the England players' performances than manager Thomas Tuchel, who told BBC Radio 5 Live: "What drama from the first minute. What a crazy game. What an emotional roller-coaster. What a national anthem from the Mexican people. I am so proud I was part of it.

"It was a fight for a long time with 10 men. There is a lot to love about this team.

"It is too good to be true. When we saw the draw, it was like 'Wow'.

"It feels like quarter or semi-finals now. Straight away it felt huge. Since we were here in Mexico, it feels like you're a part of something very big and very special. We all gave our very best."

  6. Rice walks tightrope after booking in first minutepublished at 07:27 BST

    Mexico 2-3 England

If you are watching the game for the first time on BBC Two, you will learn things as you go.

For example, the fact that Declan Rice was booked for a high boot in the FIRST MINUTE was lost in the mayhem of the following 90 minutes.

The England midfielder stayed on the field until the very end, producing another display of calm authority, while always walking a disciplinary tightrope...

I am 78 years young - so have seen England many times, but this game would be in top five great England performances of all time. Had two hours sleep, now up ready to go to golf. Fingers bitten and crossed for what is to come.

    Mexico 2-3 England

Before the game Alan Shearer said he had never known anything like the atmosphere inside the Azteca Stadium.

He said it would take a heroic performance to stand up to Mexico in their fortress.

    That's exactly what England delivered.

The re-run is about to kick off on BBC Two if you have time to watch it...you won't be disappointed!

    England

England midfielder Jude Bellingham speaking to BBC Sport: "Hard to gather it all together really. With 10 men defending how we defended our box, being clinical how we were in their box. Big pressure moments in years gone by watching as a fan, as a kid, England probably would have crumbled but we stuck together until the last second. The players who came on, the players that started, running themselves into the ground and giving everything. That is what what this team is about.

"The atmosphere was by far the best I have played against in international football. This country as a footballing country is magnificent. The reception we had coming off the plane, although it was hostile, it was beautiful to see how passionate one country can be about their team.

"The refereeing decisions, it is what it is. It's the World Cup and they are human too. As easy as it is to say now, they are human, we made a lot more than they did, but no worries we got through."

On his first-half clearance being just as important as his two goals: "It could have been. At 2-1 the game was still there, especially when they scored. It felt like the stadium almost collapsed. So it was probably an important clearance, just as important as the goals, but this win is far more than me. It is the players that came on, the supporters who have come to Mexico and probably had a difficult journey and paid hard earned money. It is a whole country's performance."

  13. Bellingham's 'best performance in an England shirt'published at 07:12 BST

    Mexico 2-3 England

    Sami Mokbel
BBC Sport Senior football correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Live from Estadio Azteca

Jude Bellingham used his technical class, but it was almost like he dragged England over the line.

That was one of his best performances - if not his best performance - in an England shirt so far.

He and Harry Kane during this tournament have been phenomenal.

    Long may it continue.

You want the others to chip in with goals but when those two are performing the way that they are, England always have a chance.

I’m 50 this year and that ranks as the best England game at a World Cup. Beating Germany 5-1 was special, but this….. this was memorable on a different level. Work? Sure I’m powering through. Worth every yawn, ache, heavy head today. The Beautiful game at its absolute best.

    Oliver, St Albans

Magnificent! Not only the commitment of the players, but any fan who made their way to the match deserves all of our admiration and thanks for going above and beyond!

    Chris and Chris, Liverpool

I’ve followed England since Mexico 86. I remember crying at the “Hand of God”. Deep down I’ve never felt that England had what it took mentally to win a tournament before. Not now. That was easily the best England performance I have ever seen. Believe!

That was one of the greatest results, performances. They showed attitude, grit, desire, everything you would have wanted an England team to show they showed tonight.

Going down to 10 we knew it was going to be difficult. They sat in and I was worried that we went too deep too early, but they put their bodies on the line. The centre-backs and Pickford were outstanding.

We were the better team until the red card and then we showed a lesson in heading the ball out of the box, blocking shots, just brilliant.
