Former Norwegian football player Markus Fjortoft told BBC News that playing England on Saturday is "the stuff of dreams" after his country waited 28 years to qualify for the tournament.

"We have a very romanticised relationship to English football since it was broadcast here in the 70s," said Fjortoft.

"English football and the English national team have always had a special place in our hearts. We've always tended to support England.

"For us as Norwegians to play England in a World Cup quarter-final, is the stuff of dreams.

"I think for the very first time, after beating Brazil, there's a small inkling that we can actually win the World Cup."

Thomas Tuchel told BBC Sport that his England side are capable of playing better against Norway than they did against Mexico:

"I think we can play much better, there’s a lot we can do better.

"There's still a disconnect from us, from the best version of us that I see, from what we actually put on the pitch in terms of football, performance in terms of ball possession and finding spaces.

"There's no disconnect in committing and doing what is needed to overcome anything."

England's game against Norway will be like a Premier League game.

Because a lot of the players in the Norwegian side like Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard play at top clubs in the Premier League.

That will be blood and thunder, it will be cut and thrust.

Like what you'd usually see on a Saturday afternoon in the Premier League.

I'm looking forward to that game a lot.

Saturday's World Cup quarter-final in Miami represents a chance for England to move level with Norway on two victories apiece in competitive matches.

When it comes to competitive matches against England, Norway have won more than they have lost (won two, lost one and drawn one in four World Cup qualifiers).

The most famous - or perhaps infamous - came in a World Cup qualifier in September, 1981.

England had won the home fixture 4-0, continuing their unbeaten record against Norway, but fell to a first ever loss - 2-1 - in the reverse fixture in Oslo.

Cue Norwegian radio commentator Bjørge Lillelien and his iconic rant, taunting various prominent figures in English history:

"Lord Nelson! Lord Beaverbrook! Sir Winston Churchill! Sir Anthony Eden! Clement Attlee! Henry Cooper! Lady Diana! Maggie Thatcher - can you hear me, Maggie Thatcher? Your boys took one hell of a beating! Your boys took one hell of a beating!"

England have faced Norway 12 times over the years, but the two sides have never met at a major tournament.

The Three Lions have beaten Norway seven times, drawn three times and lost twice - the last meeting was a 1-0 friendly win at Wembley in 2014.

[Mexico striker Raul] Jimenez created quite a few chances, so with a player like Erling Haaland, he would probably have taken two or three of those chances.

They [Norway] are a solid team, but I think we have more than enough to win that game.

Harry Kane's chances of winning the Golden Boot for a second time will increase with every game that England win.

Should the Three Lions come out on top against Norway on Saturday, that would limit Erling Haaland.

And former England front man Emile Heskey believes Thomas Tuchel's team have what it takes to get past Haaland and the Norwegians...

The big guns continue to deliver at this World Cup.

Another goal from Harry Kane against Mexico means his Golden Boot dream remains very much alive.

What a tournament the England skipper is having.

But the competition to be the tournament's top scorer is fierce.

Erling Haaland moved level with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe on seven goals with a brace against Brazil.

Kane is one behind on six goals.

Messi has played a game less, so can steal a march on his rivals in Argentina's last-16 tie against Egypt on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham's two goals against Mexico saw him join a group of six players on four goals that includes France's Ousmane Dembele.

Harry Kane and Erling Haaland - two of the game's most prolific goalscorers and both are also in contention for the tournament's Golden Boot.

England v Norway is about both teams, not just two players, but the head-to-head between their two in-form strikers - Harry Kane and Erling Haaland - is inescapable...

My three picks before the tournament were France, England and I said don’t be surprised if Norway do really well.

Haaland is the standout player, but they have some really good players. They work hard, they’re a team and work together.

This will be a totally different game to last night.

Let’s enjoy [the win over Mexico] but England will have to be on the top of their game again on Saturday.

Norway are in the quarter-finals because they deserve to be and so are England.
