Proud to say I saw this Haaland performance coming and didn’t captain him in FPL this week… only problem is Bruno Fernandes, who I did captain, didn’t do much better.

Aston Villa look a lot more compact now, they haven't opened themselves up as much. So far, they've all stuck together.

As a Villa season ticket holder, my personal view is that it is best to treat everything as pre-season until the first international break…After that I think Emery gets the time he needs, will have a settled group, and we can work out where we are.

    Man City 0-1 Bournemouth

Erling Haaland has had five shots in this match, last having more without scoring in a Premier League game in November, 2024 versus Tottenham (seven).

That's Man City's best chance of the game. It's just behind Erling Haaland.

Marc Guehi cleverly cuts it back and Haaland hits it into the ground which makes it easy for the Bournemouth goalkeeper.

And still Man City attack and still it won't go in. Stand-in midfielder Marc Guehi goes on a super run and reaches the by-line, but Erling Haaland mishits Guehi's cut-back while attempting to wallop it first time and the ball bounces straight to Djordje Petrovic in the Bournemouth net.

Flashes of Maresca ball similar when he managed Chelsea. Slow, laborious build up and vulnerable on the counter

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 15:34 BST

    Brighton 4-0 Aston Villa

Aston Villa make a couple of changes as Tyrone Mings and Lamare Bogarde come on for Pau Torres and Ross Barkley.

Just over 15 minutes to go.

  13. 'Half an opportunity for Haaland'published at 15:33 BST

    Man City 0-1 Bournemouth

    Paul Robinson
Former Tottenham and Leeds goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Half an opportunity for Erling Haaland who doesn't make the most of it.

Rayan Cherki has been at the heart of everything since he's come on. Him and Phil Foden have linked up really well. The Bournemouth defender gets there to put off Haaland.

  14. Postpublished at 15:33 BST

    Man City 0-1 Bournemouth

Erling Haaland looks different, and I'm not just saying that because he's had a haircut.

The ball drops to him in the box but instead of his ruthless self he spoons a shot high and wide.

  15. 'Man City changed everything but still expected to win'published at 15:32 BST

    Man City 0-1 Bournemouth

    Joe Hart
    Match of the Day pundit

I think Man City look ok. It’s obviously interesting when they’ve had such settled world-class players that they’ve almost mixed and matched. I didn’t expect Rico Lewis to play but he’s looked ok. I think Bournemouth have done well. City just need that little spark, they needed that Haaland or Guehi chance to go in. They’ll remain patient, they have to this season. They’re all finding out about each other, but ideally they find out about each other and still grind out results.

They’re more than in this game. Anderson and Guehi is an interesting one in midfield but that won’t be a long-term thing, especially with Bouaddi coming in. I think with people coming back late from the World Cup Maresca is just trying out things in-season, in-game. That’s just where Manchester City are at the moment, they’ve completely changed everything about themselves but they’re still expected to win.

    Brighton 4-0 Aston Villa

This second half is a bit of a non event and Aston Villa are probably quite happy now just to get through it without conceding again.

There's half a chance for Brighton as the ball comes to Diego Gómez 25 yards from goal but he fires an ambitious effort well over.

  17. Postpublished at 15:31 BST

    Man City 0-1 Bournemouth

Bournemouth are going with some England vs Argentina tactics. Everyone behind the ball. It's risky.

Can only see City getting Europa League this season - even that's a big ask. What on earth has happened to our most feared squad?

    Brighton 4-0 Aston Villa

    Jobi McAnuff

I'm at the point where I've got sympathy for the Aston Villa players, it's a long slog this second half, the minutes seem to feel a lot longer, they've got themselves into this situation.

Another example there where Ross Barkley is holding onto the ball too long and now Brighton have nicked it.

You can feel something bubbling under the surface for Man City. They have been better since Rayan Cherki came on.
