  1. Ngumoha's moment to savourpublished at 16:29 BST

This young man had quite a memorable moment at St James' Park last season.

Liverpool squandered a two-goal lead against the 10 men of Newcastle but Rio Ngumoha, at the tender age of 16, came on and won it in the 100th minute for the Reds.

Never a dull game when it's these two involved.

You think of number 7s in the history of any football club, I don't think any had two better than Kevin Keegan and Kenny Dalglish.

There have been some memorable tifos at St James' Park over the years, but this one is right up there.

This huge tribute to Kevin Keegan has incorporated every single seat in the stadium, including those Liverpool supporters in the away end.

Keegan 7 has been spelt out in the Leazes End, there is a huge mosaic of 'King Kev' in the East Stand and, in the Gallowgate End, there is a memorable quote from the most transformational figure in Newcastle's history.

“I want people to dream about their football club," the banner reads. "They should. We should all be dreamers at heart. Some people are the opposite and say, ‘We can’t do that’. But when you ask them why, they can’t give a reason. Well, I say, ‘Why not?’"

This is up there with the most emotional things I have ever seen at a football ground. It's wonderful Liverpool can be here too.

This is like a church to Kevin Keegan right now.

Both sets of players make their way out of the cramped St James' Park tunnel and I bet they've got goosebumps seeing this Kevin Keegan tribute.

    Unbelievable stuff from both clubs.

Alexander Isak was a write off last season, he was never going to be fit, if I'm training on my own all summer I'm not pushing myself to a maximum. Having someone to compete against makes you push yourself, what's his level? Where's he at? You mays of not put him in any squads.

Or write him off for the first eight weeks. He's played in the Premier League and proved himself in the Premier League but Florian Wirtz hasn't.

I think I feel somewhat optimistic for Newcastle. With Eddie Howe I think it was the right time, I think it was strange he waited (until after the season finished.) I think a few uncertain things around transfers made his final mind up, it would be hard to leave a club like Newcastle.

I think it was the right time, I think they're in an okay place they've got a good mix of players, if they can keep Lewis Hall. Tino Livramento if they can keep him fit, they've got a good mix. They can enhance what they've got, they've got a new intense manager.

  10. 'We're going big for Kevin Keegan'published at 16:19 BST

Newcastle United fan group Wor Flags have a special display planned to honour Kevin Keegan ahead of their opening Premier League fixture v Liverpool.

"We do sometimes go big on the first game of the season anyway because we like to set our stall out if you like, certainly for this one we're going big for Kevin Keegan who is such an iconic figure for the club and for the area."

  12. 'Dedic is a perfect fit and addition to the squad'published at 16:17 BST

    Newcastle v Liverpool (16:30 BST)

Newcastle United's new head coach Matthias Jaissle has been talking about the signing of Amar Dedic who also played under him at RB Salzburg:

"I think Amar is a perfect fit and addition to the squad. He can play both full-back positions, even in the youth he played a couple of times at centre-back. He's really versatile in his approach. He knows the playing style due to our time together in Salzburg which is always beneficial especially when you don't have too much time to train."

  13. 'Isak knows he has to turn up this season'published at 16:16 BST

    Newcastle v Liverpool (16:30 BST)

    Rachel Corsie

We know Alexander Isak can do it and it was a brutal start to his life at Liverpool. He was under enormous pressure and I think what hurt him was Hugo Ekitike doing well and he had to come out because there was that pressure of Isak has to play. I don't think that was a good scenario.

Now I think Isak knows this is the season he has to turn up, so he's gong to have to do it.

Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has already got a taste of the reception that awaits him from Newcastle United supporters inside St James' Park.

The former Newcastle star was met by a chorus of deafening boos and one or two insults on his return to Tyneside after getting off the team bus and climbing the steps up to the players' entrance.

Isak, unsurprisingly, had his earphones in on his first return to the stadium since pushing to leave the club last summer.

The man once worshipped in these parts returns as a villain wearing red.

Will Alexander Isak come back to haunt Newcastle in his first appearance against them since his £125m move to Liverpool?

  16. 'I was sure I was onside'published at 16:11 BST

    FT: Man City 2-1 Bournemouth

    Manchester City

Manchester City match-winner Josko Gvardiol to Sky Sports: "Everyone is proud in the moment, it's the opening game of the season and we know how important it is, especially with all the changes we've had in the previous weeks. We need to enjoy this, we deserve it and I'm happy with the three points."

On his goal: "To be fair, I was quite sure I was onside, but it's difficult, in that moment you are just waiting to see the referee's reaction. I am glad in the end it's a goal.

"Every game is important, especially here in England. I would say the most important thing is that we won today. There is another game, Crystal Palace away, which is going to be difficult as well."

It certainly has been an exciting, mad opener. Hopefully Liverpool/Newcastle will be as nuts as that fixture usually is.

    Newcastle v Liverpool (16:30 GMT)

    Ciaran Kelly
BBC Sport reporter at St James' Park

Some special tributes are planned today as Newcastle United and Liverpool supporters come together to remember Kevin Keegan.

A huge flag display and tifo from Wor Flags will incorporate every seat at St James' Park while there will also be a centre circle mosaic made up of more than 500 shirts left outside the stadium following Keegan's death last month.

Among those former players in attendance are Warren Barton and Tino Asprilla, who have jetted in especially from the United States and Colombia respectively.

The sense of occasion is not lost on Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle as he prepares to take charge of his first game.

“He made a phenomenal impact on this club and is a huge source of inspiration for anybody who has the privilege of following in his footsteps, which I am so honoured to do,” he writes of Keegan in his programme notes.

“It’s clear he was more than just a football manager – a true gentleman who had time for everybody and made our supporters believe that anything could be possible.”
