  1. 'Liverpool are fearful of Newcastle's pace'published at 17:27 BST

It's difficult to say Newcastle fully deserve it because Liverpool have had most of the play and got to the final third at times but they have created precious little.

Newcastle have defended very well. I'm impressed by Lewis Hall and Amar Dedic. They did seem to falter a little bit when William Osula got injured but the further Liverpool press up, they know the danger from all the pace against them is something that they need to worry about.

  2. 'The question on Watkins is for him'published at 17:25 BST

    FT: Brighton 4-0 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery, speaking to Match of the Day: "We started good in the first 10-15 minutes. When we made the first mistake, they scored and then we lost our balance emotionally and we conceded three more goals. It was a tough moment and with the red card was more difficult. The only good news for me was how the players responded in the second half."

On Joao Gomes' red card: "Maybe the first yellow card was not fair, but OK. We must accept."

On if it was his decision for Ollie Watkins not to play: "This question is for him. You can call him and try to get his answer. The players here wanted to play and we had two strikers with a small injury. The question on Watkins is for him."

  3. 'For sure something is going to happen' - Maresca on new signingspublished at 17:22 BST

    FT: Man City 2-1 Bournemouth

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca to BBC Match of the Day: "Happy first of all because we won the game. I think it was actually a game we deserved to win early because we controlled the game and we created chances. Before the goal we conceded we had three or four clear chances and we missed. We conceded and it became more complicated but overall I think it was a game we completely deserved to win.

"Today we had four or five player that arrived very late 10 days ago. For them it is still almost pre-season. Erling [Haaland] is one of them, Elliot [Anderson], Marc Guehi, Nico O'Reilly you know we had four or five. It's complicated for them but they have done a huge effort to help the team. Even Marc Guehi has never played as a midfielder, today he was very good, so I am happy with the effort from the players.

"Sometimes you visualise things. I know Marc from Palace and I always thought he could play as a midfielder because he is very good. So we tried it for a few days and I think he was quite good.

"This is what we need. We need the first XI starting in the right way and we need the other five changes going in the right way. Today the five changes I think they were very good."

On Manchester City agreeing a deal for Ayyoub Bouaddi: "I will speak now with the club after the press conference."

On any other new signings: "We will see, it's eight days to go. For sure something is going to happen."

I'd imagine Andoni Iraola will be getting into his players at half-time.

Anyway, time for some reaction from the two earlier games.

This game just lacks quality. Both teams easily giving the ball away so much.

Liverpool haven't had to deal with a lot of pressure so far but they don't fill you with a lot of confidence.

I think the best form of defence for them is to keep hold of that ball.

Dominik Szoboszlai's poor delivery is cleared but he gets a second chance to send it into the box, which Newcastle deal with.

Milos Kerkez isn't having the best of games. He loses out to Anthony Elanga again and Yoane Wissa is able to have a go from miles out but drags his daisy cutter wide.

Liverpool have plenty of faith in Rio Ngumoha. He's just the second 17-year-old to start on the first day of the season for Liverpool after Michael Owen.

But on the basis of his first-half showing down the right, you can't help but feel that the teenager is so much more threatening down his preferred left flank.

Iraola wants his wingers to be able to play on both sides and it might take some time before Ngumoha becomes more comfortable down the right.

Liverpool have had nine shots in this match so far - none of which have seen striker Alexander Isak involved as either the shot taker or chance creator.
