Thanks Mr A, and hello all.

Not a bad little session that.

I'm sat listening to the happy murmur of lunch time at The Oval, lovely stuff.

  2. New Zealand 75-2 at lunchpublished at 25 overs

    Timothy Abraham
    BBC Sport

Henry Nicholls leaves the final delivery of Jofra Archer's over alone.

    That's lunch.

I'm off to fetch some scran of my own. Here's Mike Peter.

  3. NZ 75-2published at 24.5 overs

Jofra Archer squares up Henry Nicholls who defends and edges it between second slip and gully.

Would it have carried to a third or fourth slip? Possisbly not.

England need to start bowling over the wicket and bring the pads into play.

  5. NZ 71-2published at 24.2 overs

Jofra Archer with the last over of the morning session, bowling round the wicket.

Henry Nicholls shoulders arms to his first couple of deliveries.

There's been a lot of short of the length bowling here today. There's been a slight element of protection, not easy to score on. New Zealand are just waiting.

  7. NZ 71-2published at 24 overs

Rachin Ravindra picks up three with a checked drive off Matthew Fisher with Jordan Cox sliding on the boundary to prevent the four.

The third umpire checks he has done so cleanly.

Time for one more over? Just about.

  8. NZ 66-2published at 23 overs

Six minutes to go before lunch as Matt Fisher begins his seventh over.

Might be a few shoelaces that conveniently need tying for Rachin Ravindra and Henry Nicholls here.

We've seen something today that's never happened in a Test match in England, a top four of all left handed players.

It's the 26th time it's happened in Test cricket, all in this millennium, it never happened before 2001. It's also the first time that New Zealand have had an exclusively left hand top four.

  10. NZ 66-2published at 22.2 overs

A delightful wristy flick from Rachin Ravindra brings him another boundary off Jofra Archer through mid-wicket.

The Kiwi batter times it beautifully as he just leans into a fuller ball and it races beyond the dive of Emilio Gay for four.

  11. NZ 62-2published at 22 overs

A maiden from Matthew Fisher to back up that wicket from Jofra Archer. Watchful from Henry Nicholls.

Now, can Jofra Archer give Rachin Ravindra a working over before lunch.

David Renton: Re: cricketing professions - Peter Bowler (a batter though, ironically).

Paul Mitchell, Newcastle: If it's an all time professions XI how about Keith Fletcher?

Ian, Leighton Buzzard: Archer, Fisher, Baker, Tongue sounds like the direct-to-video sequel to Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

  13. NZ 69-2published at 21 overs

Rachin Ravindra, the new batter, is off the mark with four off his first ball from Jofra Archer. The Kiwi effortlessly works Archer off his pads to the fence.

Tom Latham was looking to go very square. He's worked very hard to work through 75 balls, whether it's just straightened a bit on him. It was a good catch, two hands on it. Great effort.

For New Zealand, this is a very important mini session now.

He's caught! A most unusual dismissal. Jacob Bethell takes the catch. Tom Latham looking to turn the ball in the leg side. That's a good catch because Bethell wouldn't have been expecting that.

    What a strange dismissal.

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 20.5 overs

    Latham c Bethell b Archer 27 (NZ 58-2)

Leading edge! Or perhaps of the back of the bat, even?

A bit of a curious dismissal. Tom Latham attempts to work Jofra Archer into the the legside but he's a little too early on the shot.

The ball flashes out towards gully where Jacob Bethell takes a superb diving catch to his right.

Perfect time for a breakthrough for England just before lunch.

I'd say this was quite a good toss to lose. Whilst the English bowler's speed has been up, they're firing a tad bit short.

Have you spotted a niche in the market here, Gemma? Get that presentation sorted and letter sent off to the ECB.

I would hazard a guess they have some sort of seminar or other on it, but so many decisions are done on what's happening out in the middle it's tough to replicate that in a classroom.

No DRS in the County Championship. It tends to be TV-driven thing.

I would imagine Joe Root will rely on Harry Brook's advice.

Anyway, Sonny Baker chalks up another maiden.

Gemma Lewis, Nottingham: How much training do new Test team players have using DRS? Is it used in county games? Could England potentially struggle with an inexperienced wicket keeper and cordon?

Jofra Archer had an average speed of 90.2 in his opening spell. It's the third fastest spell that he's recorded for England and the fifth fastest opening spell ever for England.
