Motown and rap music might seem, on the one hand, poles apart. But the two forms have much more in common than is generally known. Music journalist Jacqueline Springer traces the history of the music and the message.
1970s Motown had created its own internationally successful musical production line, but the end of the decade would be rocked by a new rap record which would take rap music from the ghetto into the charts.
