With 11 November 2008 marking the 90th anniversary of the Armistice, this year’s Remembrance is an occasion to remember those who died in the Great War. Find out how you can get involved in Manchester:

1918 - 2008: Ninety years of Remembrance

The aim of the BBC Remembrance coverage is to encourage individuals and families to look into the stories and documents of their relatives who served in the First World War through events and other services.

Visitors will be able to post their family artefacts, photographs and memories at bbc.co.uk/remembrance on the wall of remembrance.

Between Remembrance Sunday and Remembrance Day (8 - 11 Nov), mobile phone users can sign up to receive one daily text message telling the real story of a World War One soldier from their region.

To sign up for this service text WW1 followed by a SPACE and the FIRST HALF of your postcode to 88822.

Ancestry: trace your family war hero

The family history website ancestry.co.uk is waiving its usual fee for the whole of November and making its World War One record collections free to search and view.

You'll be able to search for your relatives who served in the World War One and then view images of the actual records free from the 1st to 30th of November.

You will need to register for free with ancestry.co.uk with your name and e-mail address. You will then be sent a user name and password to access the records.

NB. the Service Records consist only of surnames A-H with surnames I-N to be available by mid-November. (The collection will be complete by early 2009)
