The idea in the 'Medway Towns' is to create a cohesive 'linear city', spanning 11 km of the River Medway, with a rejuvenated Chatham town centre at its heart. Medway Council and their regeneration team - the lavishly named 'Medway Renaissance Partnership' are in charge of making sure the different projects are delivered successfully over the next 20 years. ![]() Medway from the air. The plan is to make the whole 'Medway Waterfront' area a distinctive place, well known and loved for its inspiring buildings and open spaces, riverside walks and historic environment. The main site earmarked for transformation is Rochester Riverside, a large industrial site on the river Medway close to the heart of Rochester. There will also be a major face-lift of Chatham waterfront, the Pentagon Centre and parts of Strood and Gillingham. The Historic Dockyards is a popular tourist attraction and Dickens World opened in 2007.
