Strood Riverside

Building on this former industrial site has already started and, within a few year's, you'll see a new residential area to complement the flagship Rochester Riverside development across the water. There'll also be a new riverside walk and cycle path, while there's also work being done to strengthen the local flood defences.

The first phase of development for Strood Riverside, including homes and a landscaped play area, was completed in the 1990s. The latest development aims to improve access to Strood station, the town centre and the Medway City Estate.

The project is being taken forward by the council’s Medway Renaissance team in partnership with the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) with funding from the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Strood town centre

The aim here is to overcome the dispersed nature of the town centre, enhance the shopping areas, improve access to the Medway and bring a number of vacant sites back into use. Improved transport is also a priority.

Temple / Strood Waterfront

This riverside site, situated between junction 2 of the M2 and Strood town centre, overlooking Rochester's castle and cathedral, offers the potential for new homes, jobs, open spaces and a nature conservation site. There'll also be an improved riverside walk.

• Timeline: 2004-2024

Gillingham Waterfront

Work here aims to improve the relationship between the town centre and the river. The site stretches from Chatham Dockyard to Danes Hill between the Medway and Gillingham North Relief Road. As well as new homes, there'll be space given over to open space and riverside walks.

• 200 jobs
• Timeline: 2005-2010
• Shops, leisure facilities and community facilities including a doctor's surgery
