Apprenticeship levels explained

• BBC apprenticeships offer the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, gold-standard training and a formal qualification, all while receiving a salary and benefits.

• Level 3 (Advanced Apprenticeships) & Level 4 (Higher Apprenticeships)

  • L3 equivalent education level: A level / Scottish Higher.
  • L4 equivalent education level: Foundation degree or SQF7.
  • Ideal for: Those finishing school or college, non-graduates or career changers new to the creative industry.
  • Duration: Up to 25 months.

• Level 5 (Higher Apprenticeships)

  • Equivalent education level: Foundation degree or SQF7.
  • Ideal for: Those progressing in a specific subject area.
  • Duration: Up to 24 months.

• Level 6 (Degree Equivalent and Postgraduate Apprenticeships)

  • Equivalent education level: Bachelor’s degree.
  • Ideal for: Those looking for an alternative to university, but want to gain a degree while working (N.B. not all Level 6 apprenticeships include a degree qualification).
  • Duration: Up to 36 months.

• Level 7 (Postgraduate Apprenticeships)

  • Equivalent education level: Master's degree, PGDip.
  • Ideal for: Those looking to advance their skills in a specific subject area and gain a professional qualification.
  • Duration: Up to 30 months.
