Hello BBC Tyne,

I'm in London at the mo, sitting in an internet cafe. Some sweaty, fat, hairy man has just handed me my americano and now I'm writing this to you!

Last week turned out to be pretty busy actually, as I decided to put on a gig up my village square.

It was basically just to say thank you to all my family and friends for supporting me and spending a bloody fortune on their phone bills!

Gary with guitar
Gary Phelan: Was he born with a guitar in his hand?!

I was at first gonna make it quite a big thing and charge on the door and raise money for charity. However, I couldn't get a big enough room in time, so it ended up just being quite personal amongst family and friends. I played at the Comrades Social Club, in their function room. It was a brilliant night - atmosphere was terrific! I gathered all my mates up to play as well...

First on was David Stanyer and James Hills, acoustically. Stanyer, being an amazing guitarist, James being the singer.

They write songs together and performed five or six songs - some of their own and some well-known Beatles covers.

Next up was me. Just me and my guitar acoustically. I played a couple of my own songs and some covers with a mate, Gary Ormston.

We performed the Bee Gees song I've got on the album, - no. 10, 'Gotta get a message to you!'

Then it was a full on band: Lotus. They're gonna start gigging soon around the region. Indie, rock with brilliant songwriter, Ian Barnes.

Took a break, then I got up and fronted the band for about an hour and a half. It was fantastic - I played my electric guitar, acoustic, and also just jumped around like a lunatic and sang!

I was a rock 'n' roll star for the night and loved it, it's definitely what I'm going to head towards now - it's in me.

Louise
Louise: The latest student to leave Fame Academy.

The gig was on Saturday night, so I actually missed the Fame Academy show!

I heard Louise went out. Shame, as she's a lovely girl. I think I'll probably meet up with her soon, as we got on well.

I've just read in the papers that she's got
a track from Robbie Williams! How jealous am I!?

Good on her - I hope she does well. I also heard Alistair ended up in the student vote. I think he should go next. He keeps giving the same performance and, to be honest, it bores me.

Alex is going to win. Peter needs to prove he can sing and not just scream, because he can.

He's got a great 'singing' voice. I've heard it, but he seems to bottle it on stage. He gets over his nerves by jumping around and shouting, but you can't do that for every song.

Trafalger Square
Trafalger Square - London

So yeah, I'm down London with Carly. I'm gonna try taking some pics this week for you when I'm in the studio with John McLaughlin.

And, oh yeah! We went to a premiere yesterday. It was for a film called CAMP. Comes out on 5 September.

It was really funny and I recommend it to anyone who's into acting, singing, performing, whatever!

It was really good - some really blow you away moments with the singing and the comedy was spot on - all good.

Afterwards we went to the aftershow party at RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts). That's the closest I'll ever get to being in that place! (I used to want to be an actor as a wee boy!)

The cast came along and got on stage and sung through a few of the songs from the film. It was even better in real life - amazing voices.

Me and Audley were really worried we might get asked to sing! Simone was there too and we had loads of people coming up and asking for our autographs and taking pictures - it was really flattering!

Next Monday, I should have loads more to tell you. I've got a busy week ahead of me. Gonna be speaking to executives, producers, songwriters, the works! All exciting stuff!

Take care

Gary
xx.

Your comments and questions for Gary
Hey Gary!

I'm from the north east, and i supported you all the way through Fame Academy! I thought you did great. You are really talented, and gorgeous!! I just want to know, How did you feel going out of the academy so early?

I wish you could have stayed in longer, but no matter what, i think you'll make it in themusic business!! Good Luck Gary!

Have you spent much time up here(the north east) with your family and friends? And do you like living in the north east? What was your best and worst moments in the Academy?

Lots of love and Support
Louise from Durham

Its great to hear from Gary what he has been up to since leaving Fame Academy. I look forward to his next entry.

I would like to tell him that I loved hearing his own songs on interactive and would like to know if there is anywhere I can hear an MP3 on the net of any of his songs.

The only one I have on video is the song he sung to the songwriter called "Without You" which I love. I remeber hearing a love song he sang which made Louise cry which was also lovely but I never got this on tape unfortunately.

I think he is very talented and has a great future and deserves to get a record deal.

Den x

There has been someone on the Fame Academy BBC message boards claiming to be you. Please confirm one way or another in this diary if it was you or not. Please. If it wasn't you then it was a cruel joke. Hoaxes are cruel and I am sure you would not want your genuine fans to be hurt in this way. Alfie
