The New Year's Spiritual Journey

Every week, BBC Tees will be putting a question, or topic, to members of some of the different faiths around the Teesside area to gather their wisdom and maybe prompt us all to think about life in a different way.

January 1 saw people across the country welcoming in the New Year, with Muslims celebrating Al-Hijra, the Islamic New Year, on January 10. For all of us, it is a time of new beginnings, but with every day a new start and a new opportunity to improve ourselves, what can we gain from the New Year?

Rev Pev

Rev Paul Peverell

Rev. Paul Peverell, Anglican Vicar of Great Ayton and Newton under Roseberry: "New Year is one of these latter experiences when we can find encouragement and help in our new start from knowing we aren't travelling the road alone. If you want to stand a chance of lasting longer than just the first week, keep it simple."

Captain Colin Bradshaw

Captain Colin Bradshaw

Capt. Colin Bradshaw, Acklam Salvation Army: "So what if we failed? So what if we got it wrong? So what if we made a mistake? That was yesterday. If we focus on yesterday, we worry about tomorrow and completely miss today's opportunities."
