FaithYou are in: Tees > Faith > The New Year's Spiritual Journey ![]() Captain Colin Bradshaw The New Year's Spiritual JourneyCaptain Colin Bradshaw is an ordained minister of religion within The Salvation Army. He came to Middlesbrough in 2001 to take command of The Salvation Army in Acklam, but is originally from Nottinghamshire. Worry is wasting today's time to clutter up tomorrow's opportunities with yesterday’s troubles. To try to undo what has been done or agonize over lost opportunities is not only foolish but futile.
Before the New Year began, the prophets of doom and gloom spread their gospel in the media. The credit crunch, the property slump etc. Woe to thee who dare to dip their toe into 2008. Woe to thee who dare hope for a happy New Year. Woe to thee and to thee more woes, they proclaim in their bleak headlines of doom and gloom. I believe that 2008 is a year of opportunity found not in the hope of a better tomorrow but in living today to the best of our ability. Today we can start anew. Today we can try again. Today we can make a change for the better. So what if we failed? So what if we got it wrong? So what if we made a mistake? That was yesterday. If we focus on yesterday, we worry about tomorrow and completely miss today’s opportunities. What can we gain from 2008? Everything if we live it fully, to the best of our ability, one day at a time. Nothing if we let each precious day slip by. Remember: Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift from God that is why it is called the present. last updated: 09/01/2008 at 14:58
