So there we have it, Exeter will play Northampton Saints in the Prem final next Saturday afternoon at Twickenham after a sensational comeback from 26-10 down at half-time to stun Bath at the Rec.

Bath will be left wondering how they let that slip from their grasp after such a strong first-half showing and that decision not to go for a potentially match-winning drop goal at the end will spark plenty of conversation around the pubs of the West Country tonight.

We have been treated to two absolutely fantastic semi-finals after last night's East Midlands derby - let's hope next Saturday's final is similarly enthralling.

We'll be back here next week to take you through it all and find out who will be crowned Prem champions.

    See you then!

  2. 'Decision made to pick and go and I’ll back the team'published at 17:44 BST

    FT: Bath 26-27 Exeter

Bath head of rugby Johann van Graan speaking to TNT Sports about the decision not to go for a drop goal at the end:

"We were set up for the drop goal and we were set up to take it wide.

"Ultimately the decision was made to pick and go and I’ll back the team.

"On reflection there was so much space on the outside but we win together and we lose together.

"From an effort and intent point of view I can’t fault these players and it came down to the last action of the game."

Sport never ceases to amaze me. Exeter were pretty much dead and buried at half time but showed great courage and tenacity to stage one of the greatest Prem comebacks against most odds. Great credit to Rob Baxter and the team.

What a game! Watched it in O’Neills in Maidenhead and bonded with two top fellas when the pub lost the tv connection and we huddled around my phone listening to 5 Live.

  4. 'The smallest margins in sport'published at 17:42 BST

    FT: Bath 26-27 Exeter

Bath head of rugby Johann van Graan speaking to TNT Sports:

"I thought the intent was excellent. In the first half we didn’t put them away and we left a few chances out there. Minutes 40-60 hurt us we couldn’t get out of the kicking cycle.

"We weren't good enough in the second half and the smallest margins in sport it comes down to a held up there but well done to Chiefs and good luck to them and Northampton in the final.

"I’m absolutely proud of what we’ve done (this season). In the moment I’m gutted and disappointed but that’s sport, that's the beauty of sport, it’s amazing for Exeter to win it like this and gutting for us to lose it like this.

"We’ve got to be better but that’s gone now. We’ll get some quiet time together as a group tonight and reflect on the memories we made. Some big players are leaving the club and the journey ends tonight."

All these players deserve to be on the King's Birthday Honours List.

I keep saying the same thing: enjoy yourselves, have a great night - but don't forget that we haven't won anything yet.

We want everybody at 100% on Monday, in again and ready to go to Twickenham on Friday for the game on Friday.

What a way to finish the season.

  6. 'Exeter showed so much grit to comeback'published at 17:36 BST

We spoke about the pressure points in the game and when that moment was going to come and that was it.

Santi Carreras was literally 10 yards in front of the posts, it's a little drop kick for him, nothing, and he's gone for it himself to score and got held up.

There's going to be a massive review obviously for Bath, but it's Exeter's day. They showed so much grit to comeback and have that Premiership final next week against Northampton and what a game that will be.

What a sport we are privileged to watch. Two fantastic semi finals, athletes going hammer and tongs for 80 minutes. Thank you

    Brian, Mansfield

Fantastic performance - never say die - but will need to play the first half next week to beat Saints. Don't stop believing . Got my tickets at Xmas!

    Jason, Sussex

Congratulations to Exeter, what a stunning second half! As a Saints fan, I'm really excited for next weekend. The rugby is going to be electric and, I think, Saints will edge it (although I am biased).

  8. Baxter 'confident' Exeter would winpublished at 17:31 BST

    Rob BaxterImage source, Getty Images

Exeter director of rugby Rob Baxter speaking to TNT Sports:

"The first words I said at half-time were 'I'm really confident we're going to win the game'.

"I watched the last five minutes of the half and Bath were doing everything they could to just slow the tempo down.

"We actually worked them very hard for the scores they got and as the half grew on, the fact that we didn't let that growth get any bigger than the 16 points, the more it's happening, the harder we're making them work, the more I kind of felt we'd have time in the second half.

"I know we're fit, I know we're resilient, and the harder they had to work, the more they were starting to flag and just taking their time getting back onside - all the things you can start to see in body language - I just thought 'this is going to be our time - if we're ever going to exploit it, it's going to be now.'

"You saw the second half. We had so much more time in possession of the ball, and that's how you have to play Bath. You can't play Bath by just giving them the ball and going, 'what do you want to do, Bath?'

"You play Bath by going 'this is what we're going to do, we're going to work you by moving you around and try and make you uncomfortable'. We did that really well in the second half."

  9. 'This will sting Bath'published at 17:28 BST

    FT: Bath 26-27 Exeter

    Martin Haag
Former Bath lock and coach on BBC Radio Bristol

Exeter were the only team in it in the second half and that's why you have to take your hat off to to their coaching staff - Rob Baxter and Dave Walder, in particular - with how they stayed in that game.

They do stay in games, they have a fantastic ethos and their DNA was probably missing last year. But this year they seemed to have got it back and it just shows that you can never write them off.

Overall, it was such a close game, Bath were great in the first half and not so great in the second half. Unbelievable.

It will sting Bath because we set such a high bar now. This is a third semi-final we've been in, in three years and this is actually a turn-up for the books because if you look at the stats, home semi-finals are normally won by the home team and very, very rarely are they turned over by the away team.

Exeter have done a job on Bath and they'll be delighted. But from where we were four or five years ago to where we are now, we're in a great place.

We've got a world-class team, world-class coaches, we're in competing with Europe, we're competing in semi-finals and we want to be in finals. That's the expectation.

That's the great thing about Bath: we've got that mentality back that we want to be in there.

Today will hurt - it will really hurt. One will look at it and go 'it was one that got away'.

I know you'd normally have a tunnel in rugby, but that was a proper tunnel from Bath for Exeter.

They have been dethroned. The Exeter players got a massive reception from their fans on the north terrace.

I've said all along that the half-backs this season have made a huge difference. Harvey Skinner is rightly man of the match and Stephen Varney was heroic at the end.

What makes this so incredible is that, 12 months ago, Exeter were in a pit of misery. They had an awful season and came ninth.

They'd only had four wins all season and just had a record defeat at Gloucester. To be going to the Premiership final 12 months later, having beaten all the top sides... the only team they haven't beaten is Northampton, who they drew with away from home.

This is almost on a par - I know it's slightly different - with Leicester in football, who avoided relegation one year and won the Premier League the following year.

If Exeter win next week, you can almost compare it with that. The team that's finished third has never gone on to win the final.

They have a miserable record at Twickenham, winning twice in 13 games.

Exeter fly-half Harvey Skinner to TNT Sports:

"We know Bath have a big power game. Their set piece is very good and they're winning the scraps, the aerial battles

"So we just said 'we've got to attack the game, and we need to get those points right'.

"I thought the bench came on and did a great job.

"The bench shored up the scrum and we just wanted to attack, really. We knew we had opportunities and the boys stuck at it. We got those opportunities and the boys came good."

Exeter were awesome. But have they played their final already?

    Mark, Herts

Hats, scarves and gloves off to Exeter, especially for that goal line stand but Bath must have had a brain freeze at the end not to take the dropped goal!

    DB, Wales

The Chiefs' turnaround from last season has been immense. Can't be too harsh on Carreras - you'd have thought Bath from 5m out would go over, especially this season. Bring on next week!

  13. 'Why didn't Bath pass the ball back?'published at 17:18 BST

    FT: Bath 26-27 Exeter

    John Lockyer
Former Exeter Chiefs captain on BBC Radio Devon

Chiefs threw a couple of conversions away that Henry Slade would normally have converted. It could have been a lot easier.

But at the end, why didn't Bath pass the ball back to Santiago Carreras for a drop goal in front of the posts?

Bath have formed a guard of honour. That's a lovely touch.

  14. 'The boys showed some great fight' - Skinnerpublished at 17:17 BST

    FT: Bath 26-27 Exeter

Exeter fly-half Harvey Skinner speaking to TNT Sports:

"I've not got words to describe that, it's mental.

    "We showed great character.

"Bath took it to us for 20 minutes, we went a man down, but the key message was 'don't stop believing'.

"The boys showed some great fight, we stuck at it and we came good in the end."

  15. 'A lot of questions for Bath'published at 17:15 BST

    FT: Bath 26-27 Exeter

    Sophie Hurcom
BBC Sport at the Recreation Ground

Most of Exeter's players and coaches are celebrating wildly in the changing room, shirts off with the bubbly flowing.

By contrast, the Rolling Stones' 'You can't always get what you want' is now blasting out of the speakers at the Rec as the Bath players and coaches still stand, looking shell-shocked, on the pitch.

Bath had the win in their hands at half-time with a commanding lead and they had the chance again to win it in the closing seconds, so there will be a lot of questions of what went wrong and 'what ifs' to follow.

  16. 'Chiefs will be massive underdogs'published at 17:13 BST

    FT: Bath 26-27 Exeter

    John Lockyer

It's a great result for Exeter Chiefs and west country rugby. We don't get much success in the west country but we've certainly had some here for the 40 minutes of the second half.

They'll be massive underdogs next week. Every one of these players and the coaches deserve a huge amount of credit.

Ethan Burger came on and was outstanding. Harvey Skinner was my man of the match.

Exeter centre Henry Slade speaking to TNT Sports:

"We were fully committed to defending what was in front of us.

"We just put our bodies on the line, defended our line. I'm so proud of the boys.

"We came here and had a similar sort of game to earlier in the season - they went to a 26-0 advantage, and we came back and then they ended up winning it at the end.

"But we've learned from that, stayed strong and we came out with it this time."

  18. Postpublished at 17:09 BST

    FT: Bath 26-27 Exeter

A reminder that Bath led 26-10 at half-time and were almost completely dominant in that first 40 minutes.

They did not score a point in the second half.

    What changed?

Exeter were excellent in the second period but Bath seemed to have no idea how to change the momentum once Exeter got on top and the game just rapidly snowballed away from them.

They had one foot in the final after 40 minutes - their players are still on the pitch. They look completely dejected.

That was an incredible match to watch.

  19. 'That was unbelievable'published at 17:09 BST

    FT: Bath 26-27 Exeter

    Nigel Walrond
    BBC Radio Devon commentator

What an amazing comeback. That's got to be one of the most amazing defensive sets I've ever seen, at the end.

Bath threw absolutely everything at that. That was unbelievable. Incredible.

Seven Premiership semi-finals the Chiefs have been in, and they've won all of them. They're the seventh team to win an away semi-final in 45 matches.

We've talked all season about Exeter's fitness, but never was that more apparent than in those closing stages.

To keep Bath five metres from that try line for so long - if Bath had moved it, they could have walked over.

Their record against the top boys this season has been excellent. Northampton and Exeter have got the best record against the top boys and they're going to Twickenham.

  20. 'Bath had such an opportunity'published at 17:06 BST

    FT: Bath 26-27 Exeter

    Alex Cuthbert
Former Wales and Exeter wing on BBC Radio 5 Live

    Wow, I cannot believe that!

Bath had such an opportunity there. They were five metres from the goal line but they kept picking and going, and Exeter's discipline was unbelievable. It must have been 30 phases in that period of play and they've somehow managed to do it.

The Bath fans are absolutely distraught.
