Lovely stuff from Len Ikitau who offloads to Olly Woodburn who makes good ground in the tackle.

Chiefs send it wide and have the advantage.

It comes to nothing and from the penalty Henry Slade kicks it into the corner.

It feels like a crucial moment this so close to the break.

Exeter just need to stay in it.

In games this year they've managed to just stay in it and make a comeback, they need to do that now.

This Exeter front row are really struggling at the moment though, the conditions are having an impact.

Exeter responded well to Saints' first try, can they do so again to get themselves a second before the break?

    Here they come...

Former Saints player and manager on BBC Radio Northampton

    It's a well-worked try.

They really are working hard and had to work hard there because at the moment Exeter have been defending really courageously.

Fin Smith, who would have thought it, diving through.

Try: Northampton 14-5 Exeterpublished at 31 mins

    Fin Smith con: Smith

The fly-half is over for Northampton's second!

Saints win the collisions at the breakdown with Curtis Langdon to the fore and when he is stopped just short, Alex Mitchell whips it away to Fin Smith who beats Stephen Varney one-on-one to cross the whitewash.

Smith then pops over the extras to stretch the Saints lead to seven.

    Northampton 7-5 Exeter

A searing break through the middle of the pitch from Saints lock Alex Coles who bashes his way through Harvey Skinner's tackle.

Exeter are scrambling but do so well and Immanuel Feyi-Waboso leaps out of the line to almost secure the interception - a genuine attempt - but knocks on so Saints will restart with a scrum about 15 metres out from the Chiefs line.

You just sense with Chiefs with their brilliant fitness levels, the longer the game goes and it's tight, the more chance they have.

It's not been the flow we expected.

You've got to take the game to your opponent, it can't be 60 minutes then you decide to play.

This will go to the 80th minute I think, it's not gone how I thought it would.

Exeter's players are over the line - but the ball isn't.

They secure the line-out on this occasion and get going with the drive but it's a little messy and with bodies everywhere they come up short.

The referee says he did see it in real time and felt it was a coming together with the players in the same space rather than a deliberate tackle by Ethan Roots.

And having watched again he sticks with his original decision so Chiefs keep the ball and have an attacking platform.

    A first TMO intervention now.

Matthew Carley is being asked to look at the stadium screen for an alleged off the ball tackle on Curtis Langdon by Ethan Roots.

Not too much in it on first viewing.

I expect that now Saints have had this water break and they've had a minute to connect together - I expect them to start to click and tidy up a little bit after their soft errors.

  14. 'Action packed'published at 15:28 BST

    Northampton 7-5 Exeter

    Brent Pilnick
BBC Sport at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham

Never mind the players that need a break, I think many of those watching here at Twickenham need one as well to catch their breath!

What an action-packed first 20 minutes - it's had everything.

A scrum penalty for Saints at the resumption but the high fives quickly turn to disappointment as they miss touch with the kick to give Chiefs possession.

The players and officials are sufficiently hydrated so away we go again.

  17. 'Mitchell has made mistakes'published at 15:27 BST

Alex Mitchell has made more mistakes in the few minutes that he's been out than probably the rest of the season.

Two minutes later than scheduled we have the first water break of the match.

Plenty of water break chat at the football World Cup at the moment and it is greeted with a similar negative reaction here!

Let's not open that can of worms right now.

  19. Postpublished at 20 mins

    Northampton 7-5 Exeter

Exeter have a good attacking platform now.

Joseph Dweba can't find his jumper cleanly from the five-metre line-out though and Saints can clear.

It's pretty chaotic, all-action stuff out there.

    Just what we want really!

  20. 'Exeter have been doing their homework'published at 15:22 BST

I'm trying to work out why Exeter are getting so much change out of Northampton.

Those passes they usually play so fast are not quite coming off, they're not as connected.

Exeter have been doing their homework.
